At Cardiff we aim to attract, retain and engage high-quality staff, and we are currently the only Russell Group University to have achieved institution-level ‘Investor in People’ status.
We continue to enhance the staff learning community; instilling a culture of lifelong learning that assists staff in the continual improvement of their teaching. Improvements such as these come from many avenues, be they in line with advances in teaching, in assessment and feedback methodologies or in technology, but most importantly they come in response to the Student Voice. With the development of internal awards schemes, such as the Students’ Union’s Enriching Student Life Awards, amongst others, and the support of the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme we celebrate this excellence and work to continually strengthen the educational experience we provide.
We develop academic staff through our Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (PCUTL), and are increasing the development opportunities for established academic staff, support staff and postgraduate research students who teach. Staff participation in PCUTL has had a significant impact on Schools, and demonstrates that an increased understanding of pedagogy has massive benefits for the educational experience of our students.
We are committed to creating an environment where staff are valued for their contributions and are actively involved in the ongoing development of the student educational experience. There is a range of groups that any member of staff can join in order to be a part of this process. If you are interested in getting involved please consider the links in the left sidebar or alternatively contact the Education Team.
