We pride ourselves on the level of engagement we have with our student body, giving students the opportunity to express their opinions and be partners in the decision-making of the University. In particular, we actively support the Student Academic Representation system and survey students regularly to make sure we are always working in the best interests of our students. We also engage our students in the planning, implementation and evaluation of their courses, which continues to enrich the educational experience at the University.
The expectation of Chapter B5 of the Quality Assurance Agency’s Quality Code outlines that “higher education providers take deliberate steps to engage all students, individually and collectively, as partners in the assurance and enhancement of their educational experience”. Our approach to Student Voice demonstrates this by providing opportunities to engage students at three levels:
|Involvement||Opportunities are provided for students to express individual opinion, perspectives, experiences, ideas and concerns.||Students are consulted throughout their student lifecycle through a variety of University and national surveys. We also ask students to provide feedback through module evaluation questionnaires and provide feedback to their student reps. We continue to report back to students on the outcomes of actions taken as a result of their feedback.|
|Participation||Opportunities are provided for students to take a more active role in a defined activity.||The student representative system allows student reps to play an important role in the decision-making of the University using feedback from their students. Every year, a variety of student focus groups are conducted to inform current University policy.|
|Partnership||Collaboration between the University/schools and students involving joint ownership and decision-making regarding developments to the Cardiff experience.||We benefit greatly from our ongoing, close working partnership with our Students’ Union and its Elected Officers. This work includes the development and implementation of our Fee Plan and our work this year on developing our Student Charter.|
